SKIMS begins stem cell treatment | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 5: In a major therapeutic development, Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) performed first successful Bone Marrow Transplant and patient recovered satisfactorily. According to a handout, a 52 year old patient had stem cell transplant and engrafted well. This is the first time, this treatment modality has been used in Jammu and Kashmir. The transplant team plans to enroll newer patients with varied indications for such treatment with confidence and pride. This facility will be a great relief to patients in J & K; apart from getting it at their door step it would be cost effective. Department of Medical Oncology SKIMS performed this technically advanced procedure. Director SKIMS, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, has complimented transplant team for this landmark development. “We are grateful to J&K govt and Union Health Ministry for their support and help”, Director SKIMS said.
