| Bhim Singh challenges detention in SC | | J&K Government recommends deportation of 29 PoK, Afghan prisoners | | NEW DELHI nov-07 Following Supreme Court notice to the State and the Union of India, on a writ petition filed by Prof Bhim Singh Chairman State Legal Aid Committee challenging the validity of the detention of PoK and Afghan prisoners detained by the Jammu and Kashmir government in various jails of the country, the State Government has recommended deportation of 29 PoK and Afghan prisoners. According to a handout issued by B S Billowria, General Secretary State Legal Aid Committee, the Jammu and Kashmir Government in an affidavit filled in the Supreme Court of India has recommended deportation of 29 prisoners including 11 Afghanis and one from Tazakistan currently logged in various jails outside the State. Prof Singh in his writ petition has challenged the validity of the detention of the prisoners under Public Safety Act who were in continuous detention for over 10 years. He had moved a writ petition for 98 prisoners, 15 of them have already been released while 29 others have been recommended by the State Government to the Union of India. The status of 53 prisoners shall be submitted to the court next week, the hand out adds. B S Billowria and Manjoor Ali Advocates assisted Prof Bhim Singh in the Apex Court, the handout claimed.
