SRINAGAR, JULY 28 – Legislative Assembly which met here today for 11th session unanimously passed obituary reference to pay tributes to the ex-legislators Sheikh Abdul Rashid and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Dar moved by Speaker Mr. Tara Chand in the House.
Paying high tributes to the departed leaders Mr. Tara Chand said that Shiekh Abdul Rashid was not only a high caliber political leader but a known social worker who rendered selfless service to the people.
Showering tributes on ex-legislator Mr. Ghulam Nabi Dar who was killed in a grenade attack at a rally at Kulgam alongwith four others, Mr. Tara Chand said that Mr. Dar was known for his humble, kind-hearted and people-friendly character. He said Mr. Dar always highlighted people’s cause and advocated it with positive frame of mind both within and outside the House.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather while paying homage to the departed leaders underscored the necessity of instituting inquiry into the killing of Mr. Dar saying that such inquiry is need of the hour to remove all doubts from the minds of the people. Recalling his association with both Mr. Rashid and Mr. Dar, the leader of the opposition highlighted their high qualities of political and social work.
State Secretary CPI(M) and MLA Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, supporting the initiating of inquiry into the Kulgam grenade attack incident in which Mr. Dar and others lost their lives, said that some people do not want to carry the state towards the goal of peace and progress and that is why they are bent upon creating a situation where innocent people fell prey to the bullets of violence mongers.
He said “we all need to unitedly fight terrorism and curb the elements responsible for such acts. Remaining silent spectators over the human killings by militants amounts to support the crime”. He suggested that we should rise above every political consideration and fight terrorism together.
Ex-Minister and MLA Mr. Harshdev Singh speaking on the obituary reference paid rich tributes to the departed leaders and also referred to the terrorist attacks in which innocent people got killed at Mumbai, in the Valley, Basantgarh, Kulhand in Doda and other places. He also referred to the untimely killing of Pramodh Mahajan and paid tributes to him as well.
Legislators Mr. Jugal Kishore and Mr. Ashwani Sharma also expressed same views and paid rich tributes to the departed leaders and innocent persons who lost their lives in terrorist acts both within and outside the state.
Both the legislators also paid tributes to late Pramodh Mahajan.
Mr. Jugal Kishore also demanded adequate security to all legislators.
