Omar asks BJP not to hoist 'individual' flag in Srinagar | Says it will incite violence in Kashmir again | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 5: In a fresh Omar Abdullah vs BJP row, the Chief Minister of J&K today accused the party of trying to instigate trouble and set Kashmir on fire at a time when peace had returned there after recent turmoil. Lashing out at BJP, Omar asked the leadership to shun its plan of flag hoisting or else face the 'repercussions' for which, he cautioned, the party alone would be responsible. After his return from London trip, the Chief Minister while addressing the media termed BJP's proposed plan of tricolour hoisting at Lal Chowk on January 26 as provocative and uncalled for move which he 'anticipated' would foment trouble and incite violence again. "I fail to understand what is the need to hoist individual flags... my minister and other government functionaries would hoist the flag at Stadium in Srinagar besides a number of places where Police security establishments would do the same across valley", Omar said while responding to a query related to the Kashmir Chalo rally of BJP youth wing on Jan 26. " Do they want to prove they are more nationalists than we are...", the Chief Minister questioned. In what could be seen the Chief Minister totally against the BJP programme, an apprehensive CM of the violent backlash for the party's action tried to convince contending there was no need for such individual action . He said the flag will be hoisted at numerous places. "Every district headquarter will have a flag hoisting ceremony. Every security camp, Army establishment and police structure will have flag hoisting," he said adding "what is the need for the BJP to hoist a flag at Lal Chowk. If a minister hoists a flag in Srinagar is that somewhat not relevant. Will their flag hoisting be more relevant", he asked. "BJP is actually not happy when there is no fire around……… when Kashmir is now quiet, they (BJP) want to set it on fire again", a visibly angry Omar said ,adding "if their aim is to set Kashmir afire, I would ask them to stop. If there are repercussions, I will hold them personally responsible…..They should not hold me responsible if there is a fallout of that in Kashmir. They will have to come and sort it out…", the Chief Minister of the state asserted. Omar said all this while his father , Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah sat beside him in the winter capital today. |
