Vakil impresses upon CM to constitute SAC, RTI
1/6/2011 9:59:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 6: Senior Congress leader, member AICC and former minister and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil has impressed upon the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to go ahead and constitute state accountability commission, state vigilance commission and RTI as early as possible as some ministers and some bureaucrats has strengthened the nexus of corruption in the prevailing security situation in the Kashmir valley.
“Some corrupt ministers, bureaucrats and other high profile people have found this situation apt for looting the state exchequer by adopting wrongful means, thereby increasing chances of defunct administration machinery across the state.” Vakil said in a statement adding such acts are likely to cause irreparable damage to clean image of ruling coalition especially young Chief Minister .
Abdul Gani Vakil was addressing party convention at Kupwara today.
Vakil lambasted at the opposition (PDP) for creating hurdles in
reviving SAC and RTI commission as they know that once the SAC is
revived, noose would tighten against some of their leaders who during their tenure looted and plundered the public money. He expressed deep regret over opposition leader’s repeated refusal to attend crucial meeting for constituting SAC and RTI.
While addressing the convention Vakil said that a lot about corruption and corrupt individuals has been appearing in the news papers. This needs to be taken seriously and demanded constitution of an independent and credible commission which would force the corrupt ministers, legislators, ex. ministers , ex. legislators to disclose source of their income as quite number of them has acquired hundred of kanals of prime land and raised palatial bungalows over night in Srinagar, Jammu and New Delhi.
Vakil expressed full faith in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s
campaign to eradicate corruption but at the same time he asserted that it would all prove to be an exercise in futility until the dynamic
head of the Govt. rose above the inhibition of conventional vote bank politics and Chief Minister will have to begin from the top. He will have to take drastic steps without thinking much about its
consequences as the people at large want a neat and clean system. No doubt it is tough job as the cases of corruption are pending in SAC against some sitting ministers and wife of important leader has been declared accused by the court in the jute scam case.
Addressing the convention Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat MLC demanded that the Govt should take steps to provide Govt. jobs to unemployed youth and the commitment given in this regard by the Chief Minister must be fulfilled. Besides others who spoke in the convention include senior Congress leaders Ghulam Rasool War and Abdul Rahim Wani.
