Five POK guests arrive here, 5 Kashmiris cross to other side of LoC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR Jan 6: Five guests from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) arrived here while five Kashmiris crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad. However, trade between the two parts remained suspended as traders on this side are protesting against the alleged inadequate facilities at Salamabad trade centre. Official sources said this afternoon that five residents of POK, including two women, arrived at Kaman post, the last Indian military post at Uri, about 110 km from here in north Kashmir, after crossing the Aman Setu bridge on foot. They said eight residents of Kashmir, who had crossed over to other side in previous buses in 2010, also returned to their homes after completing stay in POK. They included a woman and three children. Similarly five Kashmiris crossed over to POK for the first time to meet their relatives. Two residents of POK also returned to their homes in the Aman bus, first in 2011, after completing stay here. The service was started when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off first bus from here on April 7,2005 despite threat by militants not to allow the service. However, the service continued its run and helped thousands of families divided in 1947 to meet each other. Despite five month turmoil in the Kashmir valley last summer, 553 guests from POK arrived in 2010. However, only 222 residents of the Kashmir valley crossed over to other side during the same period.
