KVKs vital in boosting agri-horti farming in far off areas: Mir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 6: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir has asked the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) to establish Krishi Vighyan Kendras (KVKs) in far-off areas instead of district Headquarters to broad base the reach of latest techniques of agri and horticulture farming among the farmers of the state. The Minister was reviewing a meeting convened to take stock of establishment of KVKs across the state. He said the main objective for setting up of KVKs in the state is to give boost to agriculture production by using latest techniques. The meeting decided to establish KVKs at Baramulla and Kishtwar and approach revenue department for completing all the codal formalities for identification and handing over of land to the department. The meeting also took the stock of construction work of KVKs of Udhampur and Ramban district also. The Minister asked the authorities of CITH to ensure that the faculties start the work wherever these institutions have been setup to benefit the farming community. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production, M.I. Khanday, Additional Secretly Revenue, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Abdul Majeed Wani, Director CITH, Dr. Nazir Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner Central, B. N.
