People looking at PDP as an alternative: Mufti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Jan 6: Opposition People's Democratic Party today accused the Omar government in Jammu and Kashmir of failing to keep its promises and claimed that people were looking at the PDP as an alternative to have their aspirations addressed. "Omar government has miserably failed to translate its promises into reality, so the people of this state have been looking towards PDP to get their aspirations addressed", former Chief Minister and PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed told reporters here after Madan Lal Aggarwal, a prominent businessman of Jammu, joined the party. Claiming that the previous PDPregime had set an example of good governance, he said people have realized that only this party has the vision and conviction to solve their problems. Programmes and policies of the PDP government were formulated after taking into account the wishes and aspirations of all regions and subregions of the state, he said. "It was the result of the efforts of our party that peoples' faith was revived in democratic institutions. There was participation of common masses in governance," the PDP leader said. Alleging that J&K has been plunged into unprecedented crises due to "wrong policies" of the present government, he said, instead of adopting a humane approach to solve problems of the people, this regime has been taking oppressive measures which already have proved counter productive."You can not stifle genuine voice of the people with repressive means," he argued. Reiterating that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems, he said the peace process initiated by his government was an irreversible process and the roadmap laid by his party was the only way to establish sustainable peace in the subcontinent.
