BJP firm, to go ahead with flag hoisting in Srinagar | | | ET REPORT Jammu, Jan 6: Not concerned over criticism of ruling as well as opposition parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will go ahead with its plans to hoist the Indian tricolour at the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Republic Day. Party is firm despite Chief Minister Omar Abdullah having cautioned about the 'repercussions' and asked the party to desist from the move. Reacting to the chief minister's assertions on Wednesday that hoisting the Indian national flag at Lal Chowk on Jan 26 would serve as a provocation to the people of Kashmir, the BJP leaders here said that 'Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, and they would go ahead with the plan'. 'We will go ahead with the plan to hoist the national tricolour in Srinagar,' national executive committee member and former state unit president of the party, Nirmal Singh told newsmen today in reaction to the chief minister's warning. 'What the chief minister said amounts to instigating the people in the Kashmir Valley to react,' Singh said while referring to Abdullah's charge that 'BJP wanted to set Kashmir on fire'. Meanwhile, terming Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's statement as irresponsible, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state president Munish Sharma has lso made it clear that 'no one can stop them to hoist tricolour at Lal Chowk.' It is the government which is trying to create chaos and confusion among the masses in the state. Every citizen of the country has right to hoist tricolour at any place and BJYM activists from all parts of the country too will hoist tricolour in peaceful manner at Lal Chowk on 26 January," said BJYM chief while addressing a press conference here today. |
