Mohammadan Sporting Jammu in semis of T20

KATHUA, January 07: Mohammadan Sporting (MS) Jammu trounced visiting Sandhu Cricket Club Ludhiana by a big margin of 73 runs to sail into the semi-finals of the DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Twenty20 Tournament in style at Sports Stadium, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, MS Jammu set a challenging total of 173 runs for the loss of seven wickets, which, in reply, Sandhu Club could not chase and bowled out for 100 runs in 15.2 overs.
Naresh was top scorer with 39-ball 52 runs, inclusive of four boundaries and a six while Shafqat Baba contributed 10-ball 26 runs including two sixes and three fours. Sunny also played well adding 24 (off 12 balls, 3x4) runs. From Sandhu Club, Afzal and Rajesh shared two wickets each.
Later, chasing the target, Sandhu Club bowled out for 100 runs in 15.2 overs. Jaswinder played superb innings of 29-ball 46 runs studded with six boundaries and two sixes. Shafqat Baba was most successful bowler with three for 14 in 2.2 overs. Saquib and Ishmeet took two wickets each.
For his all-round performance, Shafqat Baba was declared man of the match. He was presented a cash prize of Rs 1000 by district president, Matador Union Kathua, Harmohinder Singh.
Young under-16 cricketer, Ishmeet, who claimed two wickets and also took two important catches, was also given away Rs 1000 cash prize by the special guest as a token of encouragement. In fact, Ishmeet was spectators’ choice for man of the match award.
