Within our limited resources and manpower, the government tries to do its best,” said Jora while speaking at an extension lecture on “Disaster Risk Management, Cultural heritage and Development with special focus on Ladakh region.” The lecture was delivered by renowned heritage expert Aparna Tandon at the Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), University of Jammu here. The Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof Varun Sahni presided over the lecture while several academicians and dignitaries attended the event. Maintaining that he is “pro-active” on preservation of cultural heritage, Jora said that the government has a draft bill on culture but things are still moving slowly due to the political situations that keep on unraveling in J&K. Referring to the recent devastation in Leh due to floods, the minister said, “Despite 286 deaths and damaging of 700 houses, the resilience on the part of people of Leh was quiet evident which also got reflected through their cultural of cooperation, togetherness and value system.”
