1/7/2011 10:58:55 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 7: On the last day of the seven day long traffic week, NCC Girls Wings of Prade and other colleges today directed and organised awareness programmes in the city.
Most of them had organised programmes at Dogra Chowk, Jewel Chowk and other areas of Jammu city to spread the message for better traffic system.
The NCC girls from the GCW Parade led by Arti Dogra and Shallu Sharma were seen putting their best to improve the traffic scenario in the city. They were giving instructions and information to vehicles owners to follow the traffic norms.
There is no doubt that traffic week has become an annual affair of Police Department now and lakhs of rupees are kept for it to make people aware about need to follow traffic rules, but it does not serve its purpose.
Interestingly, the traffic week was celebrated with much charm and enthusiasm this year also, but still no outcome has been seen as many matadors and other vehicles were seen overcrowded which usually give result to a mishap. The matador operators give a down thumb to authorities by making fun of the regulation made by them. Still there are no bus stops besides the heavy rush of the matadors.
There are also certain flaws in the transport facility including proper stops, timing, routes and others. Senior citizens, women and students face hardships while traveling in passengers vehicles. The Government and Police Department should first implement such norms for such people and then implement and celebrate such weeks.
It is pertinent to mention here that the traffic week started on January 1 and was celebrated across the city by the Police Department and and took the help of volunteers of Scouts and Guides, National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) to make it successful and create message for society besides message to follow the traffic norms and rules.
