SRINAGAR, JULY 28 – Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig today informed Legislative Assembly that he would request Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad to order an inquiry into the Kulgam blast incident in which former MLA, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Dar was killed and MLC, Ms Sakina Ittoo injured. He said formalities for this would be concluded within a couple of weeks and the inquiry committee would be asked to submit its report within two to three months.
Speaking on obituary references in the House, the Deputy Chief Minister said that he would also request the Chief Minister to convene a meeting of leaders of the political parties in the Assembly to address the security concerns of the members and their political workers. He said the meeting would be convened within a month. Addressing the concerns shown by some members, Mr. Baig said attacks on political rallies and activists are of sensitive nature and reminded the House of a similar attack on a PDP rally two years back.
Paying rich tributes to late Mr. Ghulam Nabi Dar, Mr. Baig said he was a fearless activist, sociable with a high degree of sense of humour. He said he was above the petty considerations. “He would not shake hand with a person but mingle his heart with him”, Mr. Baig remarked. He said he respected the views of late Sheikh Abdul Rashid whom he described epitome of gentleness.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the entire society has been affected by the turmoil of the past decade or so adding violence in the state has only added to the woes of the people. He appreciated the resilience of the people of Mumbai who maintained calm despite the provocative serial blasts killing more than 200 people.
On the occasion, Mr. Baig welcomed the new members, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir and Mr. Shoab Lone saying the House would benefit from their experiences and positive contributions.
Minister for Transport Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma speaking on the references paid rich tributes to Mr. Rashid and Mr. Dar, saying that both leaders where of high stature who devoted their life for the cause of people. He said Mr. Rashid besides being a renowned political person was also a social worker.
Expressing deep anguish over the incidents of terror in which political personalities, legislators and innocent people are being made victim, Mr. Mangat Ram also supported the suggestion of instituting inquiry into the Kulgam grenade attack. He suggested that a meeting of all party leaders representing in the Legislative Assembly be convened to look into every aspect of the security scenario.
He said that every legislator even ex-legislators and pro-active political workers should have sufficient security cover. Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma said that it is strange that those who are abetting violence have been provided complete security while as those who are fighting terrorism are not fully covered with security cover.
Minister for Agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar expressing sorrow over the killing of Mr. Dar and others said that Mr. Dar was man of high repute and always worked humbly and dedicatedly for the benefit of people. He said Dar was known for his cool temperament and people-friendly qualities.
