PDP flays coalition for poor facilities to LoC traders | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 7: Senior PDP leader, Shahzad Khan has lambasted the state government over its “indifferent attitude” towards the cross LoC trade. In a press statement issued here, he said that the cross LoC trade still was at the same level of development at which it was left by the Mufti Sayeed government. Terming the trade as the “historical lighthouse which has withstood all storms,” Khan said that it was but for the efforts of Mufti that the much talked off cross LoC trade could see the daylight. “It has not only started economic activities between the two sides thereby giving ample employment opportunities but also brought the separated hearts together. Unfortunately, it has remained at the same level but for the apathetic attitude and neglect by the subsequent government,” he alleged. Praising the vision of Mufti and the ensuing result, he said, “It is before us all, when the price of onion had reached Rs. 80 in Delhi, people in our state were buying it for Rs 40 as the supplies were coming from across the border. Apple was a luxury fruit for the people of Rajouri-Poonch till last year but with the opening of the historical Mughal Road, the price fell from Rs.80 per kilo to Rs. 20 per kilo.” Shahzad said that no doubt the opening of the Poonch-Rawalakote and Srinagar Muzafarabad roads have not only given a boost to trade and brought together many separated families together, now it is time to open these roads for rest of the people who want to visit the either side. Criticizing the government for its “callous handling” of the issue, he said that the traders at Salamabad Chakoti are continuously boycotting trade due to lack of infrastructural facilities including construction of warehouse, proper banking system and telephone connection with the counterpart traders. He further said that the Cross LoC trade is an important CBM and the present coalition government is deliberately delaying a solution thereby not only bringing down the profit but also taking away the employment of thousands of employees.
