Bank faces Forest XI in Gold Cup Football final today

JAMMU, Jan 08: The professional side of Jammu and Kashmir Bank shall be playing against equally good J&K Forest XI to defend title in the 5th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association at GGM Science College ground, here tomorrow.
The final is slated to be held at 2.30 pm wherein Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik has consented to be the chief guest.
In the last edition of the game, Forest XI had lost in the semi-finals stages to J&K Bank. And, later Bank trounced J&K Police A to claim the coveted title.
However, this time, Police-A have been beaten by Forest XI in tie-breaker in the semi-finals to set the stage for another interesting final.
Going by the previous records and strength of the teams, J&K Bank has better prospects against the Forest XI in the final tomorrow. No doubt, the young Forest goal-keeper has impressed many while guarding the net in today’s semi-final, still Bank’s goal-keeper has a better track record.

Bank beat 9 Assam Regiment 4-1

In the semi-finals, played today, defending champion, J&K Bank registered a big 4-1 win over 9 Assam Regiment. Making early inroads, Bankmen exposed the Assam Regiment’s defence and went ahead in the very first move with Mohd Yaseen netting the ball. Without wasting the opportunities coming their way, Bank scored their second goal in the eighth minute through Khalid Qayoom.
Leading by two goals, Bank continued their offensive and added yet another goal in the tally with Yaseen making his second goal thereby bringing the score to 3-0 in the 44th minute. Four minutes later, Hardeep Singh netting the ball to take unbeatable 4-0 lead.
It was followed by Bank’s slow and safe play just to maintain the lead. However, Assam Regiment managed to give a dodge to Bank’s defence line and reduced the margin in the 82nd minute through Nipul.
In this match, vice-chairman J&K Bank Sports Board was special guest. He was accompanied by secretary of the Board, Mohd Amin Khan bresides JKFA president, Yameel Ahmed Thakur and treasurer, R K Kohli as also chairman of the organising committee, S M Gill.

Police-A beaten by Forest XI in tie-breaker

Last year’s runners-up, J&K Police could not succeed in their struggle to repeat the performance after the side lost to J&K Forest XI in tie-breaker 4-3.
Earlier, in the stipulated time the match ended in a goalless draw. The well contested 90-minute game entertained the healthy crowd witnessing the semi-final. Both sides made all out attempts what failed to break the strong defence. Comparatively, Forest XI seemed aggressive in the last 20 minutes game amidst counter attacks by Police-A.
Ultimately, Forest XI emerged winner in tie-breaker. From Forest XI, Ashiq Mushtaq, Rizwan Shafi, Shahid Mushtaq and Azhar Ali were successful while Manmohan Singh, Ajay Kumar and Vinay Kumar netted the ball while other two missed the target from Police-A
Today’s semi-finals were officiated by Rajib Dev, Suresh Gupta, Saudagar Mattoo, Harmanjeet Singh, Romy, Ricky Kumar, Fiestus Sotra, David and Yusuf Don.
