Effective maintenance of cities necessary for overall development: DCM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JAN 08: ``Comprehensive development of both Srinagar and Jammu cities very essential so that vision of making these two cities as a greater cities of the State is realized and all the towns and urban areas are also required to be given full attention for the overall development,’’ said Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand while reviewing the developmental works of Municipalities, Dal and Local Bodies here at Srinagar. The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Srinagar, Sheikh Mushtaq, Director Local Bodies Kashmir, Farooq Renzushah, Vice Chairman Srinagar Development Authority , Kifayat Rizvi, Vice Chairman LAWDA, Irfan Yasin and Chief Engineers of the different departments and other senior officers of Housing and Urban Development Department including Chief Executive Officer G. M. Mir Reviewing the developmental works, Tara Chand was informed that an amount of Rs. 120 crore are being spent under R&B sector, of which Rs 80 crore have been spent so far on various works. In addition, work on 171 bridges is going apace and an amount of Rs 42 crore have been spent so far. The Commissioner SMC, Mushtaq Ahmad informed the Deputy Chief Minister that Corporation has taken up four projects at a cost of Rs 24 crore in Srinagar which include 246 residential houses for the poor and of these 30 residential houses are under construction. Besides, Rs. 8 crore are being spent on the construction of lanes and drains while community centres in Srinagar are being constructed at a cost of Rs. 12 crore. The Commissioner further said that 246 more residential sets are under construction for Tibetan families at a cost of Rs. 8 crore, of which Rs 1.50 crore have been spent so far. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister held a joint meeting of engineers of various departments and officers of Local Bodies department and reviewed the works taken in hand under the sector. Interacting with different executive officers of 47 towns, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized all possible measures should be taken for effective developments of the towns and implement all the schemes in the time-bound manner. It was brought in the notice of Deputy Chief Minister that the BSNL and other mobile companies who owe funds on account of erection of towers. The Deputy Chief Minister directed the Divisional Commissioner to convene a meeting to settle this issue.
