100 forts to be restored in phased manner: Jora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Samba, Jan 08: As many as 100 historical forts located in various parts of the state would be renovated in a phased manner to restore their pristine glory. This was stated by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, here today, while taking stock of the renovation and restoration work of Samba Fort. MLA, Samba Yashpal Kundal, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh, Director Tourism, Jammu, R.K.Verma and Consultant, Archives, Khurshid Ahmad Qadri accompanied the Minister. The Minister was informed that out of the total project cost of Rs 4.95.crore Rs. 25 lakh have been expended on the restoration work so far. Jora directed the officers and the executing agencies to take up the restoration and renovation work of outer portion of the fort only after completing the interior works. The Minister asked Deputy Commissioner to ensure early shifting of the school housed in the premises of the historical fort. He directed the concerned officers to demolish all newly constructed structures within the fort premises to maintain the heritage value of the fort. Later, the Minister reviewed, at an officers meeting, the development projects coming up in the district.
