Impressive Nagar Kirtan taken out in city ahead of Gurupurb | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 8: In connection with Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary, thousands of Sikhs besides others organized Nagar Kirtan with religious fervour and enthusiasm here today. Since morning, the people were seen thronging the Gurdwaras to seek the blessings of Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj, the 10th Sikh Guru and participated in an impressive Nagar Kirtan which started from Gurudwara Guru Nanak Dev ji at Gummat and later culminated at Nanak Nagar. The main religious function was organised by the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Devji, adjoining Maharani Chand Kour Samadhi at Gummat. Various Sikh organisations including Bhai Kanhiya Nishkam Seva Society, National Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiromani Youth Akali Dal, Sikh Naujawan Sabha, Sikh Istri Sudhar Sabha and many others rendered support and cooperation to make the function a grand success. Thousands of Sikh devotees including school children, ‘Gatka’ parties, Dhadi Jathas, religious personalities of the community participated on the occasion. Impressive Nagar Kirtan was taken out by the Sikh Sangat which was taken out from the main venue at Gumat and culminated at Nanak Nagar Gurdwara. Earlier at Bibi Chand Kour Samadhi, several religious Sikh leaders spoke on the occasion and threw light on the importance of this day. They also highlighted some points related to the welfare of the community and recalled the non-seriousness on the part of Government for not giving due importance to some burning issues/ demands of the Sikhs in J&K by the successive Governments in the past which also included neglect of Punjabi language in the State. The Sikh leaders and other speakers of the DGPC and State Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee congratulated the Sikh community on this occasion and recalled the sacrifice of the great Guru. Impressive Shoba Yatra with ‘Holy Guru Granth Sahib’ kept in a highly decorated vehicle (Rath) and head priest chanting ‘Gurbani’ started from Gumat Gurdwara. Panj Piaras with traditional dress and holding swords were leading the Shoba Yatra. Many feats were shown by the Sikh youth during the yatra. Yatra after passing through this route finally culminated at Nanak Nagar Gurdwara. The main function will be organised on January 11 on the occasion of Gurpurab.
