SaMaPa Sufi festival to start from Jan 9 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 8: Continuing its annual music and Sufi festival Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts (SaMaPa) will be organizing 5th Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival-2011’, starting January 9. Giving this information, Santoor Maestro and Music Composer and Secretary SaMaPa Abhay Rustum Sopori said that the festival will feature classical, Sufi and folk music of Jammu and Kashmir. “The festival is likely to be witnessed by more than 15000 students and music connoisseurs in the state”, Abhay said. He said that this year the festival will feature concerts by Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Danish Aslam Khan (Sarod), Ragini Rainu (Sufi vocal), Saeed Zafar Khan (Sitar), Ajay Prasanna (Flute) amongst other including interactive session s by various eminent musicologist and music critics of the country. “This year the SaMaPa Aalap festival is being presented from January 9 to January 25 with more than 25 presentations at more than 20 locations venues. The festival will also feature some special recitals”, he said. Giving information, Abhay said that this includes an exclusive evening at Jammu Press Club for the journalists and media personalities of Jammu and Kashmir. Concerts will also be held at the border areas like R.S Pura, Rajouri. “A special concert will also be organised at the Police headquarters especially for the police and security officials”, he said. SaMaPa is not just an academy but a cultural movement with the motto-music to the masses.
