Changes on cards in AICC to 'review' alliance relations….? v'
Cong High Command's silence not approval to Omar's assertion on CM's post'
1/8/2011 11:35:25 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 8: Even as the Congress High Command has chosen to maintain silence over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's assertion on his continuance of the post for full six years, the ruling National Conference leadership must not take it as a nod or approval of what he maintained two days back.
Highly placed sources within the Congress said that the High Command has deliberately chosen to remain silent over the issue for now and this should in fact be seen as 'calibrated and calculated' political strategy in matters of dealing with alliance partners where Congress is sharing power with other parties. Sources said NC should not take it as final decision of what it actually maintained itself because the Congress High Command has neither said anything as final about the term of Chief Minister at the time of formation of coalition government in the state not uttered a word after Omar made the assertion.
Sources further said party High Command is well seized of the matter and the developments related to comments and remarks of its own leaders and later followed by the Chief Minister Omar's assertion that he is to stay there for six years as Chief Minister and there was no question of rotational Chief Minister between the alliance partners in the coalition. The High Command may not make a direct comment so soon in this regard but next 10-12 days are very crucial in defining and determining certain new things both within the organizational matters as also with regard to relations with the main alliance partner, i.e. NC, sources maintained.
During the coming few days AICC will have certain changes in its organizational make up and the new general secretaries with fresh assignments was high on agenda of these changes, sources said adding that the changes will certainly impact many things in the working of the party matters and functioning of the coalition too. Since erstwhile general secretary and in charge J&K Prithvi Raj Chavan's place has to filled and assigned to new party leader, the latter is bound to redefine the key matters related to running of coalition afresh. Sources also said the local leadership and the functionaries of PCC are well aware of these changes on anvil and waiting for some 'positive posturing' from the High Command in so far as the general aspirations within the workers and cadres is concerned.
Even though the PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz has chosen not to make any comment about Omar Abdullah's assertion on his continuance as CM, sources said while doing so he only reflected political wisdom in not creating or broadening any kind of friction or the misunderstanding over a crucial matter between the alliance partners as it is certainly not his prerogative nor within capacity to decided on this matter. Sources said with some changes in AICC functionaries on cards, the local leadership is vouching for an in charge who can give priorities not only to party politics and party matters but also keep a close watch on ties between the partners and running of the coalition government. Since there is growing feeling within the party at all levels beyond cabinet ministers that Congress must assert in matters of governance and many other decisions, the new in charge for J&K is only expected to look into these aspirations, in addition to the wish of the local leadership as also the workers that the High Command must ensure 'arrangement of three years to each partner for CM post' , rather a formula which was there in the previous coalition shared with PDP.
