11/8/2006 10:54:26 PM

Peshawar, Nov 8
A suicide attacker detonated a bomb at a Pakistan army training base in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing at least 35 soldiers and wounding a number of others, army and government officials said.
A security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to media, said the suicide attacker had struck the army's main training center in the high-security area of Dargai, a town about 100 kilometres north of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.
A government official and an army general, both speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the death toll and said the attack was a suicide bombing.
The army was expected to issue a statement about the attack later on Wednesday.
