Political awareness key to peace, progress: Omar | 8 Asks NC workers to act as catalysts in faster development | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 9 : Rejecting the attempts of certain politicians to divide society in the name of region, religion, creed and caste for vote bank politics, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that all such attempts would not be succeeded as the people are wise enough to read between the lines. "There is urgent need to cement the amity bonds between various regions and sections of people in the State", he said and asked his party workers to work as catalysts in this stupendous task. Terming political awareness at grassroots key to peace and progress, Omar emphasized the need of strengthening State's secular credentials and nurturing its age-old traits of love and brotherhood between various sections of the society. Addressing National Conference office bearers and activists from the districts of Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Ramban here today, the Chief Minister asked them to work as agents of development and peace in the State. "You should remain closely associated with the people at grassroots and highlight their development needs and grievances at various levels in the government seeking solution to the difficulties", he said, adding, political activists are bridge between the government and the people. Omar Abdullah said that problems of unemployment and deficit in power generation have been inherited by his government and both require long term measures and perspective planning to tackle positively. "We have introduced innovative measure of SKEWPY to address unemployment crisis on manifolds besides providing jobs to youth in government and private sector", he said, adding, that during the last two years, about 25,000 employments have been provided in the government sector while 43,000 engagements have also been approved for youth. The Chief Minister said that in yet another innovative step government has awarded 690 MW Ratle power project on tariff based bidding while joint venture has been signed with NHPC and PTC by the State for execution of 1000 MW Pukal Dul, 600 MW Kiru and 520 MW Kawar power projects to give considerable fillip to the generation of power in the State. Advisors to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Devender Singh Rana and Provincial National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta were present on the occasion. Later, many deputations met the Chief Minister and putforth their problems. The political activists and office bearers from Samba headed by District President, Mohinder Gupta raised development issues pertaining to construction of roads and bridges in hilly and kandi areas besides upgrading and launching schemes for water supply. It also raised the matters pertaining development of Bari Brahamana town. The activists also congratulated the Chief Minister for completing two years in office and thanked him for the Central University coming up at Samba. They also thanked the Chief Minister for developing Samba as industrial hub. The political activists from Kathua district led by District President, Dyan Chand stressed on the comprehensive development of kandi areas. They also identified development needs of Basohli, Bani, Hiranagar, Billawar and other areas. The development issues pertaining to Gujjar and Bakerwals were also highlighted besides problems in Pahari areas. They requested the Chief Minister for early placement of Urdu teachers in the schools. The political activists of Udhampur district led by District President, Rajesh Gupta demanded degree college and higher education institutions in Basantgarh and other areas. They also highlighted development issues of Lati, Majalata, Basantgarh, Saiyal, Goldy, Dudu, Sudhmahadev, Panchari, Mantalai, etc. The speakers requested for special employment package for the youth of these areas and demanded a higher education institute at Mantalai. The political workers from Ramban district led by former legislator Chaman Lal gave a detailed account of the backwardness of hilly and remote areas of the district with special reference to Kastigarh, Desa, Yesser, Batote, Gool, Rajgarh, Bemina, Brander and demanded upgradation of roads and opening up of the area for tourism. People from various areas in the form of deputations also called on the Chief Minister which included a deputation from Losganow Wachi headed by Abdul Salam, a deputation headed by Pawan Gupta from Udhampur, a deputation from Athwatoo, a deputation from Jammu, a deputation from Kulgam, a deputation from Talab Khatikan, a deputation of Kashmiri Pandits led by Anil Dhar, a deputation of traders federation, Shopian. Responding to the demands raised by the political activists and deputationists, the Chief Minister said that government would look into all the issues raised and take appropriate action for the redressal of grievances. |
