.
Jammu, November 8
Sun Microsystems India today announced the
launch of its operations in Jammu. Sun will commence operations in the
city through its partner Aman Technologies. Having established and
consolidated its presence in the growing Indian IT industry, Sun
Microsystems is now gearing up for the next phase in its market growth
and expansion plans in the country.

According to Arnab Roy, General Manager, Marketing, Sun Microsystems
India," There is a large base of customers located in regions other
than the Tier I and II metros who are increasingly recognizing the
need for technology to run their business successfully and are thus
displaying a large appetite for IT infrastructure. We have identified
18 such Tier III cities and towns and will aggressively expand our
presence into these regions by the end of our current fiscal. Jammu
was definitely on our list thanks to the presence of a large number of
business units in the region making it an attractive market from an IT
infrastructure consumption point of view.
Our expansion into Tier III cities and towns forms a strategic part of
our efforts in growing our presence across the country, allowing us
closer proximity to customers in these regions and enabling businesses
in these regions, to benefit from Sun's superior products and
solutions. Today we have a solid value proposition to offer customers
in the SMB space with a superior range of x86 products that we
launched in October 2005 and an effective channel distribution system
", he added.
This expansion will be driven by Sun's Strategic Regional Partner
model, which will help Sun's expansion into the pre decided list of
Tier III cities in towns over the next one year. As per this program,
Sun will identify partners for each of these regions and will conduct
intensive training and enabling sessions for the partners chosen to
represent Sun's business in these regions.
According to Mr. Inderpal Singh, CEO, Aman Technologies, "It is indeed
a privilege to be chosen to partner with Sun Microsystems as they
expand deeper into Indian markets. We are very optimistic about this
partnership and are certain that a strong brand name like Sun, with
its superior technology, product and service offerings will help us
rapidly increase our footprint in this region."
Says Arnab, "We are confident that this partnership will help us
penetrate the Jammu market and establish ourselves in this region.
With an efficient, proactive and dynamic distribution platform,
combined with flexible and responsive business processes and indepth
knowledge of the Northern region, Aman Technologies will enable Sun's
market strategy of expanding into newer geographies."
Sun will reach out to a wider base of customers in segments such as
Education and Research, Government, Manufacturing in addition to a
large base of small and medium businesses in Jammu.
