DCM for popularizing classical music among students | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JAN 10 – Underlining the need for co-curricular activities in schools, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today called for giving due attention on music and sports for over all mental and physical growth of students besides studies. The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the Sa Ma Pa Alap musical festival at Lawrence Public School here. In today’s concert, Ajay Prasanna enthralled the audience with his flute recital and Ragini gave a classical vocal presentation. Stating that such events help in promoting classical music among students and the young, the Deputy Chief Minister described it as a commendable effort by the Sopori family. He said, Pt. Bhajan Sopori and. Abhay Sopori are world renowned classical musicians and the state is proud of their contributions in the field of music. He said that the festival not only promotes classical music but also provides a platform to the local artists for showcasing their talent. “Classical music is part of our culture and needs to be promoted at all levels”, said Tara Chand, adding, music refreshes souls frees from mundane worries. IGP, Jammu Dilbagh Singh, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation S. C. Sahani and other renowned personalities from media, performing arts besides students attended the concert.
