'Bhand Pather' to feature as J-K Tableau on Rajpath | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 10: A blend of satire, laced with wit and dry humor, song, dance and drama depicting Jammu and Kashmir's folk theatre -- 'Bhand Pather', will be the focus of the tableau at the Republic Day parade in Delhi this year. "This year, the theme of the tableau is Kashmir's oldest typical folk theatre - Bhand Pather. It is focused to give boost to the culture and tradition," Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Haroon Rasheed said here. "Bhand Pather is a typical folk theatre that holds up the cultural extravaganza of the state. Bhand Pather is an archetypal and traditional cultural soirée that is performed primarily in Kashmir Valley," he said. "The musical extravaganza is based on a central theme that is usually a satire or laced with wit and dry humor. A beautiful blend of song, dance and drama makes it fascinating," Rasheed said. "The life sized model of Kashmir village with well-crafted wooden house, a Chinar tree and famous Sufi Shrine of Baba Naseeb-u-ddin Gazi will come up on 17 feet high, 50 feet long and 14 feet wide platform," Designer of tableau and world famous Artist Veer Munshi said. The folk theatre (Bhand Pather) - Damali (Dance) and bhand (satirical songs) would be enacted in the compound of the shrine on a Tableau by Kashmiri artists, with Kashmiri music in the backdrop.
