1/10/2011 9:51:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 10: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has ridiculed the advise of state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to his party workers of Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban for strengthening secularism at the grass roots level.
BJP state General Secretaries Satish Sharma and Sat Sharma alleged that such leaders, especially those of the NC from Kashmir and Congress in Jammu areas do talk about secularism and democracy but in the valley they forget all such sermens and start talking about autonomy, self-rule and even that of Azadi.
Commenting upon such statements of the Chief Minister, his father and others as a demonstration of hypocracy, the BJP leaders questioned that if they are really having faith in secularism and democracy, they should explain to the people that why they are having separate constitution and separate flag and more so, depriving the people of the basic rights by not extending 73rd and 74th amendment of the constitution of India to this part of the country.
The BJP General Secretaries also questioned that if they are really secular then why there is continued discrimination against Jammu, delay in holding elections to the to civic bodies, less share of Jammu in State Assembly despite the fact that Jammu has more voter strength.

They said that the state was ruled by National Conference and Congress for most of the period after 1947, but they should explain that who is responsible for the decline of presence of minorities in the valley of Kashmir. In this regard, they said that in 1947 at the time of the so-called popular government coming to power, the population of the minorities including Kashmiri pandits, Sikhs and others was as high as 14% but now they should explain by it has came down to less than 1 per cent.

They appealed the people to go through the double speak of NC and Congress of preaching one thing in Jammu and disputing the accession while in valley.
