| FILM FESTIVAL held AT JHIRI | | |
JAMMU, November 8, 2006- Three media units of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India namely Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and Song & Drama Division(S&DD) have jointly organised a Exhibition-cum-Film Festival in the historical Jhiri Mela near Jammu.
Since the commencement of Mela from 3rd November ,2006 over one lakh people have witnessed publicity programmes so far which are aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of people in general and rural people in particular.
A photo exhibition ‘Resurgent India’ put up by DAVP is the main attraction in the Mela which depicts various policies of present UPA Government including Common Minimum Programme/Bharat Nirman. In film festival section organised by DFP video cassettes/CDs based on life and teaching Great Saints/National leaders including various scheme of Central Government is attracting the people.
The registered troupes of Song & Drama Division are enthralling the audience with their cultural presentations. Over 6000 people were provided medical treatment by Mobile Medical Unit of the Dirctorate of Health Services till yesterday as per Dr. Romesh Khajuria. In the medical camp set up by Indian System of medicines over 2500 people were treated in the Mela till yesterday.
The week-long Jhiri Mela which revolves round Kissan Martyr Baba Jitto who sacrificed his life for the cause of peasantry 500 years ago is held every year on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima. Lakhs of people all over the country congregate in Jhiri to pay homage to Bawa. The mela will come to an end on 10/th November, 2006.
