| Giri's alleged associate escapes from police custody | | | JAMMU: Shammi, an alleged associate of Giri who was killed in a police "encounter" on the marble market road some time back, today escaped from the custody of Chhani Himmat police station.
He was picked up by police Saturday last from his residence at Nai Basti here.
While senior police officers parried the queries, reliable sources said Shammi had escaped from the custody of Chhani Himmat police station.
Sources said police had apprehended him on the basis of the registration papers of the motorcycle (JK02AE/1263) which was allegedly being driven by Giri at the time of the alleged encounter. Police got the registration papers from RTO office here, the sources added. Soon after his escape, though police raided his residence and possible hideouts in the area, they had not been able to get any clue to his whereabouts. |
