Gurpurab celebrated with religious fervour across state

JAMMU, Jan 11: Gurpurab, the Parkash Divas of Tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh was celebrated with great enthusiasm, religious fervour and gaiety by the people across the state today.
Pertinently in Jammu, all the Gurdwaras were highly decorated as hundreds of devotees thronged and offered special prayers throughout the day.
‘Parbhat Pheris’ were taken out by the Sikh Sangat in several localities of the city and other major towns of the state to mark the 346th ‘Prakash Utsav’ of Guru Gobind Singh, who fought against the cruelty of the Mughal rulers and by sacrificing his sons’ and his own life for the cause.
On the day of the birthday at early morning there are morning hymns, or ‘Asa di Var’, followed by an exposition of the Guru Granth Sahib. During the day there was food serving among devotees and around sunset it was the time for the ‘Rehras’, the evening prayers.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah along with Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khuda also offered prayers at Gurdwara Yadgar Guru Nanak Devji at Gummat near Bibi Chand Kour Samadhi in the afternoon. Abdullah and DGP greeted the gathering on the occasion of Gurpurab and felicitated people on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh’s birthday. Abdullah wished well being of the people besides peace and prosperity in the state.
On the auspicious occasion, T S Wazir along with members of District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) presented a proposal to the Minister regarding introduction of Punjabi language in government schools.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah said that “I am not a Chief Minister of the state. I am only father of Omar Abdullah”. He assured the gathering that all their issues will be redressed and will raise up all the issues in cabinet as well.
The Gurpurab celebrations were also held at several other Gurdwaras of the city including Digiana Ashram Gurdwara, Nanak Nagar Gurdwara and Rani Talab Gurdwara
A programme under the supervision of Mahant Manjit Singh of Dera Nangali Sahib was organised at Digiana Ashram while ‘Parbhat Pheris’ were taken out from Gurdwara Dera Sant Pura Danna, Nanak Nagar in which a large number of people including women and children participated.
Another impressive function was held at Rani Talab Gurudwara under the supervision of Sardar Avtar Singh Khalsa, Pradhan of the said Gurudwara. Heads of various Sikh organisations also attended the programme and offered special prayers. Avtar singh Khalsa threw light on the life and sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singhji. He appealed the
people to promote brotherhood in the state. Meanwhile, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Gobind Singh as Gurpurab, the Sukhmani Sahib Path was organized today in the campus of Vivekananda Institutes Lakhanpur, Kathua by the management
along with students of the institutes.
