| President arrives to a warm welcome | | | Srinagar, JULY 28– President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam arrived here this afternoon from Leh. He was accompanied by Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha and Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad. The President was received at Srinagar Airport by Chairman Legislative Council Mr. Abdul Rashid Dar, Speaker Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand, Chief Justice of State High Court Mr. Justice B. A. Khan, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Transport Minister Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Agriculture Minister Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Power Minister Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for PHE and Irrigation Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Housing and Urban Development Minister Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra, Social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Ali, Minister of State for Rural Development Mr. Babu Singh, Minister of State for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Judges of the High Court, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Director General of Police Mr. Gopal Sharma and other senior civil, police and security forces officers. Earlier, on arriving at Leh Airport this morning, Dr. Kalam was accorded a warm welcome. Among those who received the President at the airport were Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Power Minister Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Leh Mr. Tsering Dorje, MP Mr. Thupstan Chhewang, MLC Mr. P. Namgyal, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, DGP Mr. Gopal Sharma, GOC 14 Corps Lt. Gen. J. K. Mohanty, Executive Councilors and senior officers. The President inaugurated the 2550th Buddha Jayanti celebrations at Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre at Leh. He also inaugurated a residential school for visually impaired in the Meditation centre complex. The Governor released a book on Amchi medicine system written by Dr. S. T. Punchok and presented a copy of the book to the President. Chief Minister was also present at these functions.
