SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2011 | Pt Prasanna’s flute recital mesmerizes audience | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 11: SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2011 continues to create musical vibes in the city of temples. The 3rd day of the ongoing 5th Annual SaMaPa Aalap festival was held at Army School, Ratnuchak, Jammu featuring flute recital by the eminent maestro Pandit Ajay Prasanna of Banaras Gharana who is known for his great playing skills with a fine balance of both the instrumental and vocal techniques. Presenting a soothing recital with a melodious afternoon Raga Shudh Sarang, he commenced his recital with Aalap and compositions in Madhyalaya Teentaal and Drutlaya Teentaal followed by a composition in Raga Pahadi. He also made the students sing various songs and sargam patterns in different ragas explaining the students the intricate technicalities of the instrument and Indian music. He was accompanied on Tabla by Durjay Bhaumik who combines a blend of Farukkabad and Banaras Gharana demonstrating great skills in accompaniment. Music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Principal of the school Sonal Vasudeva felicitated all the artists and Pt. Sopori. The programme started with the lightening of the lamp by Pt. Sopori, Abhay Sopori, Principal and other dignitaries. Eminent Santoor Maestro and Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori was also present on the occasion. Abhay in his speech appreciated the response of the school management and the Principal to hold the festival at the school complex. He said that the festival is a must for all students and their parents to understand the rich cultural heritage of the country. Tomorrow, the festival will feature music concert at DBN School, Camp Road, Jammu featuring Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu and another flute recital by Ajay Prasanna.
