PDP flays govt for frequent power cuts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Jan 11: Criticizing the power situation in the state, Senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan said that our people are living in a state of darkness with frequent and unscheduled power cuts and the National Conference Government has blatantly sold off the natural resources of the state to other agencies. He said that the power crisis has affected all the sections of the society as people’s life in today is completely dependent on electricity. It is not only work and economy but the studies of the children are also suffering. The electricity scenario had improved to a large extent during the previous government with addition of 500 MW to the state generation system. Shahzad said that Dr Farooq Abdullah led NC regime signed a discriminatory and inequitable agreement with NHPC against a mere royalty of 12 percent thus selling out the state’s natural resource at a very cheap rate. Lambasting the thoughtless step taken by the NC led regime, he said that water is one of the most important and abundant natural resources in the state and instead of using it for a cash surplus purpose, power hungry NC has literally converted into a begging bowl. Shahzad also said that when on one hand we are supplying electricity to the rest of the country, it is ironic that our own villages and towns are left sans electricity. Just within a span of two years, power supply has deteriorated despite big power projects including Dul Hasti and Baglihar besides many smaller projects which had started generating electricity since 2008 just because of the mismanagement and administrative failure of the present NC led coalition government. He said it is high time that we renegotiate the terms of agreement with the NHPC so that we get our rightful share.
