Impressive uniform to boost morale of Govt school students | Peerzada claims, grade system will arrest suicidal tendencies | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Mishu Gupta Jammu, Jan 11 : The Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed today claimed that the introduction of grade system in the schools would reduce 'suicidal tendencies' among teenage students.
''As the students sometimes make bids on their lives for securing less percentage of marks our department has decided to replace percentage system with the grades,'' Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Education told reporters at a press conference here this afternoon. He said that the grading system would be introduced from this session in 9th and 10th standards. ''We have fixed nine grades as per the percentage secured by the student,'' the Minister said. He said that student securing above 90 per cent would be graded A1, followed by 80-89 per cent as A2, 70-79 per cent as B1 and those securing below 20 per cent would be graded E2. ''By introducing a grade system, the students will not be considered as 'failed' but will be given an opportunity to improve,'' Mr Peerzada added. The Minister further said that the students in the government schools would also get new uniforms to wipe out 'inferiority complex' among them. ''Students in government schools feel inferiority complex on comparing themselves with the students in the private schools,'' he said and added that soon a new school uniform comprising boots, pant, shirts, shorts and tie would be introduced in the government schools. ''Our priority is to reduce the mental stress of a child and for that, all efforts are being made by the Education department,'' the minister added. He, however, said that a clause has also been introduced by the Government under which all private schools have to get themselves registered with the J and K Board of School Education. ''Constitution of Management Committees, Parents Association will be made mandatory in the private schools as it will keep check on 'untimely' fee hike and other decisions being taken by the school authorities,'' said the Minister. Assuring better infrastructure in the government school, Peerzada said, ''Rs 36 crore has been granted by the Government of India to renovate the existing schools and Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned for the new schools across the state.''
