FCI workers observes day long strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 11: Food Corporation of India (FCI) Worker's Union J&K held one day bandh in all the FCI godowns throughout the State. A complete bandh was observed in all the depots. No operational work was carried out in the state in reference to strike call given by All India FCI Worker's Union, New Delhi for maintaining one day strike across country. The workers held demonstrations and protest in front of the Depots Managers through out the state highlighting following demands including burning problem being faced on account of shortage of labourers. It was stated that the work load has been increased manifold throughout the state but the labourers to cope up the job has reduced adversely owing to deaths and retirements. According to a press handout released by FCI workers, in early 90s population of the state was quite less as compared to 2010 where as the number of workers reduced from 800 to 600 for whom it has become exceeding difficult to cope up the job in absence of the total requirement of the workers. In Jammu District alone total requirement of workers as per work load is 1312 workers while as 464 workers are only in position and have been caring the work with the shortage of 848 workers. Similar is the case with other depots of the state. Yet the workers are striving to maintain the smooth functioning of FCI at the cost of their life. They appealed number of times for provision of labourers as per requirement and as also assessed by the corporation appointing very local labourers form J&K.
