KVIB Buyer-seller meet cum exhibition begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 11: A 5 day buyer-seller meet cum exhibition for popularizing the handmade paper industry in Jammu Kashmir organised by Khadi & Village Industries Commission (J&K) commenced today. The participant from Haryana Andhra Pardesh, Uttar Pardesh, Himachal Pardesh, Punjab, Srinagar (Kashmir) are participating in the meet. The artisans of these states with their product like Drawing paper, water mark, certificate paper, filter paper, file cover, jacard paper, card sheet and paper machine items will show case their craftsmanship. This exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Cooperative Dr Manohar Lal Sharma at Mahajan Sabha, Shalamar Road. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister informed the development and progress of handmade paper industry in the state. He said that there should be maximum use of Handmade paper in Govt. officer so that employment may be generated for unemployed through this traditional industry. Bank loan are being provided to industries on project pattern through the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme on which 15 to 35% subsidy is being provided, he informed. On this occasion the State Director KVIC, B.R. Chauhan informed that the Handmade paper industry, Directorate of KVIC has earned a production of Rs. 647 Crore and sale of Rs. 840 Crore, at the same time approximately 5 lakhs person have been given employment and Rs. 241 Crore has been paid to the labours. Papier Machie items have gained popularity in the State which is a good opportunity for the industry.
