RBBA deputation calls on DDC
Seeks early completion of RN Bazaar project

JAMMU, Jan 12: Raghunath Bazaar Businessmen Association (RBBA) has laid stress on
early completion of the project of up gradation and beautification of
historical Raghunath Bazaar.
A deputation of RBBA today called on the District Development
Commissioner (DDC) Jammu, Sanjeev Verma and raised the beutification
issue with him.
Led by Sachin Khorana vice president, deputation comprising Sanjay
Gupta general secretary, Nitish Choudhary secretary and Vikas Gupta
treasurer, the members of the association said that the project for
beautification and development of Raghunath Bazaar, to restore its
pristine glory was conceived and chalked out in year 2009-2010 by the
association under the chairmanship of its then President Baldev
Khullar. A detailed plan project was prepared in consultation with the
concerned authorities in various departments.
The association under the presidentship of Baldev Khullar collected
designs and patterns from various sources for the project. The State
Governor NN Vohra had sanctioned a grant of Rupees 1 crore for the
project, while the chief Minister Omar Abdullah also sanctioned
another Rupees 2 crore for the same.
‘The amount was placed at the disposal of the Department of Tourism
and Culture Jammu, for its spending through various departments on the
beautification of the historical bazaar, giving it the look
synchronizing the famous and historical Raghunath Temple’, he added.
The deputation informed the DDC that the first phase of the project
being undertaken by the PDD of laying 33 feet high electric poles with
decorative and archaic lighting shades and the poles up to 10 feet
height giving decorative looks is near completion.
It is envisaged to lay Rajasthani red stone tiles on the footpaths and
the PHE department is to set up fire hydrant points and also to lay
archaic public water supply taps at different points.
