| VC CU appointment issue JPPF to hold torch light protest demonstration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 12: Jammu Province People’s Forum will be holding torch light
demonstration in Jammu streets on January 17 to protest against the
appointment of Prof Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor Central
University (CU) Jammu and to highlight the demand for appointing a
local academician of high caliber at the post.
Addressing media persons here today, Chairman of the forum, Paviter
Singh announced that the torch light protest demonstration will also
be aimed at highlighting the grouse of Jammu people against non
implementation of the agreement reached by the government with Shri
Amar Nath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti in 2008.
‘The torch light procession will start on the said date at 6 pm from
outside the office of JPPF, Dogra Hall road and taking the route to
Kachi Chawni, Rani Park, Moti Bazaar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and
City Chowk will culminate at Raghunath Mandir Chowk’, he informed.
The forum leaders will highlight the continuous injustices with,
discrimination against and utter disregard of the sentiments of Jammu
people by the State and central Governments, which is manifested by
appointment of Prof. Mattoo as VC CU Jammu, despite strong opposition
by various sections of Jammu people, notably the student community and
research scholars.
“The appointment of Prof. Mattoo as VC CU Jammu, in utter disregard of
the sentiments of Jammu people is only aimed at pouring salt into the
wounds of Jammu people”, Singh added.
Among others who were present in the press conference were Inderjeet
Khajuria, President Jammu Hoteliers Association, Narayan Singh
President Rajput Sabha, , VP Sharma, M.L Sharma, Kuldeep Luthra of
Shiv Sena, S.Gajan Singh, President Gurdwara Committee and others.
