CPWC announces welfare measures for JKP personnel | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Jan 12: The Central Police Welfare Committee (CPWC), which has remained in the forefront to maintain peace, today announced a number of welfare measures for the Jammu and Kashmir police personnel. This was stated in a message by Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda, who was supposed to address a press conference here this afternoon but could not reach from Jammu because of bad weather. It said the CPWC has approved construction of two Police Housing Colonies (PHC) one each at Srinagar and Jammu, to enhance the accommodation facilites for the families of the personnel. ''The retirement gift has also been enhanced from Rs 3,000 to Rs 35,000 and will be paid to every personnel on superannuation,'' the message said. Similarly, welfare loan has also been enhanced from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 and powers to this effect have been delegated to different committees. About the Special Police Officers (SPOs), the CPWC said in case of death while on duty, the families of SPO will be paid Rs one lakh as relief. This will be in addition to Rs 2 lakh being paid to the families of the deceased SPO. It said that Special Welfare Relief (SWR) will be Rs 6.50 lakh against Rs 6 lakh being paid to the families of deceased police personnel, out of which, Rs 25,000 would be paid as immediate relief. The CPWC has also approved an increase in the monthly meritorious scholarships to Rs 200 from Rs 70 being paid to the wards of the police personnel securing 75 per cent and above marks in 8th and 9th standard. Khoda, in his message, said, ''During 2010, Rs 13 crore has been released and paid under various welfare schemes to the families of martyrs, serving and retired police personnel and SPOs.''
