Court adjourns case for arguments on charge

Jammu, Jan 12: The much publicized Chopra family murder case was today adjourned for arguments on charge by the Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, AK Shan. The case has been listed for hearing on February 05, 2011.
According to the case, on September 18, 2006 at 10:30 PM an information was received from reliable sources by police station Trikuta Nagar Jammu that some unidentified persons after gaining entry in the residential house of Rajinder Bushan Chopra alias Raju Chopra with criminal intention at sector 3 Trikuta Nagar have brutally murdered him, his wife Madhu Chopra, daughter Saloni Chopra, Servant Sonu and driver Jagan Nath, after their hands and legs were tied mouths gagged.
The dead-bodies were lying on the floor in the pool of blood. After committing crime the accused persons fled from the spot in a white Alto car No 0030/JK02AC, owned by Chopra's which was parked in the premises of house. On this FIR No 107/2006 u/s 302 RPC was registered and investigation was taken-up by then SHO Mohd Rafiq Manhas.
According to a direction of the High Court passed on November 17, 2008, a special investigating team (SIT) of 11 Gazetted officers headed by one IPS officer of the rank of Supt of Police and ably supported and assisted by many NGOs and other ranks was constituted by DGP J&K. The State cabinet referred this case to CBI for investigation; vide a notification September 25, 2006, however, CBI refused to take over the case on the ground that the case was of local nature.
The SIT examined about 150 suspects in the case and thereafter reached the conclusion that the murder of five persons was committed by a gang of criminal outside the state. It was also found that cash of Rs 56, 11, 384/- was looted. It was also mentioned in the challan that deceased Rajinder Bhushan Chopra was possessed licensed pistol with him. During the investigation accused Vicky was taken to FSL Banglore for polygraph, brain mapping and NAT who has confessed to the crime committed by the Gang of Sangram and also narrated whole the story of the murder. Upon this the investigation team arrested other accused in which Mahesh and Rushi were also put on Narco Analysis Test. The accused presently in the judicial custody and were lodged in the jail.
The SIT arrested eight accused involved in the murder. One of the accused turned approver and on his inputs the king-pin of Pradhi Gang Sangram Singh and Kiran Pradhi was declared absconder and general arrests warrants were issued against them. Later on Sangram Singh was produced by the Guna on the direction of Court and Sessions Courts Jammu handed over Sangram Singh to J&K Police for investigation, but police has failed to extract requisite information from him. During interrogation, he consented to Narco Test.The test is awaited. JNF
