Political outfits demand similar drives across J&K

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13: Finding ground slipping beneath due to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s innovative and seemingly politically motivated on-spot recruitment drive, leaders of almost all the mainstream political parties have increased the intensity of demand for holding similar drives in their respective constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir.
Working chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) Harshdev Singh said that if the government has started on spot recruitment drive for district Srinagar, it must be followed by a similar drive in all the 22 districts of the state. He said that the problem of unemployment in Jammu region is far more serious than that in Kashmir.
He reiterated that government seems to be listening to those only who resort to violence. “If the unemployed youth in the Jammu region are silently watching the situation, does that mean, government should give them a raw deal? Government is setting a wrong precedent by giving jobs to those pelting stones and resorting to violent means,” added Singh.
Senior BJP leader and MLA (Jammu East) Ashok Khajuria said that Jammuites have always been discriminated and when compared with Kashmir valley, its share has always been minimal. Senior PDP leader and MLA Nizam-u-Din Bhat said that not the government but the police department should hold police recruitment drives to ensure that the selection process is fair and non-political.
He too demanded that the police recruitment drive should be launched in all the districts of the state.
Senior leader of All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AIPC) H.L.Chatha demanded that youth belonging to displaced families from Kashmir be also given a chance to take part in the police recruitment drive. He said that in the interest of the internally displaced community, which has been living in penury since 1990, a special police recruitment drive should be launched for them.
