Barring those involved in crime, everyone is welcome in police
1/13/2011 9:05:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Jan 13: In a massive response to police recruitment rally in the troubled downtown area, a senior police officer said barring those involved in serious crimes, everyone is welcome in the force to serve the nation. This was for the first time that police recruitment rally was held for the youths of downtown.
The massive response to recruitment rally, despite chilly weather, forced the authorities to divert traffic to other routes. Is this the same area which witnessed almost daily stone pelting particularly after Friday prayers, curfew and other restrictions for weeks during this summer, one wonders.
The response was very encouraging as people, particularly youths, want to lead a peaceful life, a police official said at the end of the recruitment rally last evening.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, S M Sahai said, ''we were expecting massive response because Kashmiri youths also want to lead a peaceful life.
About reports that those who were involved in stone pelting were also seeking job in the force, he said, we have to see it. If anyone has indulged in some stone pelting during the turmoil, he can also be given a chance, he said adding let us make it clear that
anybody involved in serious crime would not be considered for recruitment in the force.
Similarly, on the spot recruitment rallies would be held in other areas, he said.
Youths, who had come for recruitment, said the successive governments in the Kashmir valley had ignored the city youths in recruitment. They welcomed the move and said such recruitment rallies by other departments in Srinagar should also be held in the future.
However, expressing strong disapproval of alleged hush-hush manner in which recruitment drive to police in Srinagar city has been launched, the PDP said this is another brazen instance of the insincere conduct of state government.
