| Panthers party oppose Saddam’s sentence | | |
Srinagar, Nov 08:
Dozens of Panthers Party activists today took to streets in Srinagar's Lal Chowk area to protest the death sentence given to former Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein. Protesters carried ply-cards pledging their support to the former Iraqi President and shouted anti-Bush and anti-America slogans besides burning an effigy of President Bush during the protest while marching through the Lal Chowk area. The protest came at a time when people in Kashmir have not reacted at all to the verdict of the Iraqi Tribunal sentencing Saddam Hussain to death in the killing of Shiates in Dujjal village back in 1980s. Even the Sunni religious leaders in Kashmir had not reacted sharply to the verdict and only expressed reservations over the fact that the verdict came from a court backed by US and not the International Court of Justice. Today's was the lone protest of its kind against the verdict. A few dozen men who joined the protest chanted anti US and anti Bush slogans while marching through Lal Chowk. Later, an effigy of US President, George W Bush was also burnt as a mark of protest against his policies.
