IED detected in Poonch, tragedy averted | | | JAMMU: A possible tragedy was today averted by the timely detection of an IED which was planted by militants near a temple at Mankote on the Mendhar-Poonch road. Official sources said police got a tip-off at about 12.30 am Wednesday about the movement of suspected militants near Ramkund temple at Mankote. The cops laid a cordon around the area at about 4.30 am today and stopped the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, the sources added. Army also joined police at about 7 am. Sources said while police and army jawans were making searches, they got suspicious on the sight of the freshly dug earth by the roadside near Ramkund temple. A careful search of the spot led jawans to the recovery of the IED at about 7.30 am. Sources said the IED was defused by army's bomb disposal squad at about 11.45 am. The cordon was lifted and vehicles were allowed to move on the road after about 12.30 pm, the sources added.Sources said jawans questioned some locals, but they could not provide any clue to the identity of the militants who had planted the IED. |
