JK Cong delegation call on more leaders, meeting with PM today | Thrust on 'rotational CM', seek action against 'indisciplined lot' in party | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 13: In continuation of the series of meetings J&K Congress leaders have been busy with for the last few days at Union capital, today the delegation already camping there met senior AICC leaders Janardan Diwedi and Moti Lal Vora and Dr Karan Singh. Strongly seeking safeguarding of the interests of the Congress party in J&K, the local leaders elaborately explained and vehemently stressed as to why the need for adhering to the formula of rotational Chief Minister, as practiced during PDP coalition government, must be honoured in the present coalition set up. The leaders are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh tomorrow. Sources said the group of Congress leaders comprising almost all those who called on the two Union cabinet ministers P Chidambaram and AK Antony on Wednesday, today met more senior most leaders of the party to put forth their views about functioning of the coalition government as also some internal matters of the organization which were affecting the smooth functioning. The main issue which these leaders put forth was their assertion about need to give Congress its turn of holding the office of Chief Minister, sources said adding that the thrust of the argument was that it was necessary for survival of Congress in the state. Sources said some of the Congress leaders minced no words, rather clearly sought the matter to be considered by the High Command that if status quo arrangement was allowed to continue in the coalition, the party would lose its ground and grip, particularly in Jammu region where it has major base and footing in terms of the number of constituencies. The leaders explained the talk of rotational Chief Minister was gaining momentum only in view of the aspirations and wishes of the workers and cadres at the ground level whose morale would get a boost by this step. The delegation from the state also raised the issue of factionalism within the party for which they pointed out some leaders held responsible. These leaders, the group maintained were creating indiscipline in the party rank and file as a result of which factions were getting vertically divided particularly over the issue of functioning of PCC in the state. While strongly supporting Prof Saif-u-Din Soz to be re designated as PCC chief, they said there was no leader of the caliber and capacity of Prof Soz who could deliver better than him in present circumstances. The delegation also sought activating the Disciplinary Action Committee for initiating action against certain leaders against who some explanations have already been issued in this regard. |
