| Minister advises traders to wait for stabilization of onion prices | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 14: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Qamar Ali Akhoon directed price monitoring committee to conduct immediate checking of market to ascertain the rates being charged from the consumers for different edible items.
Minister was addressing a meeting of officers of CA&PD, Metrology and Traders of different organizations convened here today to review the price status in the market. Akhoon said that the price rates of pulses, rice and other edible items in the state in comparison to other states are under control but rates of onion and atta needs to be checked immediately. He asked representatives of onion traders to adopt no loss no profit method till the prices stabilize.
Minister stressed on implementation of rates fixed by the government from time to time in letter and spirit. He also asked the market checking squad of CA&PD to intensify the market checking and book the profiteers, hoarders and black marketers under law. He also directed for displaying rate lists by all shopkeepers, vegetable sellers to bring transparency. He said valuable suggestions given by participants for control of prices would be duly considered.
President chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu Y. V. Sharma and President Federation of Retailers Association Y. P. Gupta assured for their full cooperation in implementation of Government orders and instructions with regard to rates. President Consumer Protection Organization D. R. Danish and others gave their valuable suggestions for controlling prices of essentials.
Among others the meeting was attended by Director CAPD, Jammu Parvez Ahmad Malik, ADC, Jammu Sheetal Nanda, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, Amar Singh, Deputy Director CAPD Romesh Kumar President Onion Traders Sham Lal, President Pulses Trader Union Keemati Lal, other officers of CAPD and Legal Metrology and representatives of various other unions. |
