BJYM’s Ekata Yatra adds to coalition’s worries further | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 14: The Ekta yatra to Kashmir of BJP Youth Wing which was launched by Party National President Nitin Gadkari from Kolkatta on January 12 to hoist National Flag in historical Lal Chowk of Srinagar in Kashmir Valley has added to ruling coalitions worries in the state. The National Conference (NC) and Congress coalition in the state are in a quandary how to tackle the situation. Though the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and NC patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah have warned the BJP against the launching of the yatra accusing the Party of trying to vitiate the atmosphere in the state again, the BJP has reiterated to continue the yatra to hoist the National Flag in Srinagar making the things more awkward for both Congress and NC. According to sources the ruling alliance is yet undecided how to tackle the situation in view of BJP being adamant on yatra and the separatist giving counter call to foil the move. In case the NC and Congress foils the BJYM move to hoist the National Flag at Srinagar, this will evoke a serious criticism all over the country and give political advantage to BJP, sources added. Even the decision will also evoke criticism in Jammu region for ruling alliance and in case the coalition allows the BJYM yatra to move towards Kashmir valley, this will give an edge to the separatists as well as opposition PDP to exploit the situation to their advantage against the ruling alliance in the state. Sources said the ruling coalition is working on all options to fissile out the move peacefully and the Government at both state and centre have adopted a wait and watch policy instead of putting itself to any political disadvantage. Sources said that BJP which is firm in its stand to take out the yatra wants to encash it on both ways. If the yatra is foiled and Party activists are arrested it will blame Congress all over the country of not allowing the nationalist forces in hoisting the Tricolour in Kashmir and in case the party is allowed to do the same, the Party will try to take its full credit. Sources said the BJP has already cornered the Congress and NC by accusing it of allowing Arundati Roy to hold pro freedom convention in Kashmir and forbidding the Party from hoisting the National Flag. A party spokesman here today said that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is on record to say while commenting on holding of pro-freedom seminar by Arundati Roy in Srinagar that there is freedom of speech. When the Home Minister justified holding of pro-separatist seminar in Valley what justification the UPA as well as State coalition has in not allowing the nationalist forces from hoisting the National Flag in Kashmir, the spokesman added. The ruling alliance is already facing a stiff opposition from certain quarters in opposing the BJP decision saying any one has a right to hoist the National Flag in any part of the country. By opposing the Party to hoist the National Flag in Srinagar, both Omar Abdullah as well as Dr Abdullah were talking the language of separatists, said a spokesman of Shiv Sena which has extended its full support to yatra.
