1/15/2011 12:23:46 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 14:
A woman was gangraped by six youth in a minibus at a secluded place at Barn village, about 15 km from here on upper Akhnoor road, Thursday night. Five of the accused had been arrested and put behind the bars. They were identified as Balwinder Singh of Barn, Sukhdev Singh of Kangar, Bhalwal, Mohammad Sadiq of Barn, Purshotam Kumar of Karwanda and Mohammad Javed of Barn.
The sixth accused, whom police sources identified as Sohan Lal of Barn, was absconding.
Sources said the woman, who originally hailed from Doda, was at present putting up at Digiana with her husband. Yesterday, she came to her friend's house at Bantalab on the eve of Lohri.
From Bantalab, she was allegedly abducted by the six minibus-borne youth and taken to an unfrequented khud at Barn. Though she tried to raise an alarm, the accused allegedly showed her knives and other sharp-edged weapons and threatened to kill her if
she dared to resist their advances, the sources added. In the khud, the accused allegedly outraged her modesty inside the minibus one by one and then fled the spot, leaving her alone, sources said.
The woman later walked to the nearby Gharota police station and narrated the incident to cops. Acting on her complaint, police held Balwinder from Barn last night.
His interrogation led cops to the arrest of the four other accused from different places here today. Raids were being conducted to nab Sohan, the sources added.
The woman was later taken by police to hospital where she was medically examined by doctors. She was later allowed to go home.
