State Cong leaders meet PM, Sonia | | | Early Times Report Jammu: The delegation of state Congress leaders today called on the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the Union Capital and discussed political matters besides the prevailing situation in J&K. In the series of meetings they have been holding for few days, the group is likely to meet Union Finance Minister tomorrow.
The group comprising many senior leaders of the Congress party in the state which has been camping in New Delhi for the last few days in their meeting with the two premier leaders discussed general matters pertaining to political atmosphere in the state. The local Congress leaders, in their separate meetings, also apprised them as to how the initiatives taken by the UPA government in the state were impacting the situation on the ground in terms of restoring peace and stability in the state.
Sources said the group also discussed the organizational matter with the two stalwarts and put forth their views as to why it was imperative for the interests of the party to have Prof Saif-u-Din Soz as the president of the J&K PCC for another term. Some of the leaders strongly advocated empowering Prof Soz further besides allowing him to continue as the PCC chief. This they said was in the interests of the party workers at the ground level. They also said there was need to recognize the efforts of the workers in Kashmir Valley in making the party strong at ground level. The Congress leaders also discussed the need to have coordination at all levels between the two alliance partners in the state both in Kashmir as well as Jammu.
