Benia lifts Panthal Kesari dangal title

JAMMU, Jan 15: Wrestler Benia of J&K Police and a resident of Basantgarh in district Udhampur lifted the 111th annual Panthal Kesari dangal title outplaying Mool Chand of Alamgir Akahara in Punjab in a neck to neck contest that lasted for 30 minutes at Panthal in district Reasi.
Wrestler Benia was adjudged as best wrestler in this vishal dangal, which was organized by Shri Swami Nitya Nand Wrestling Association Panthal in collaboration with J&K Indian Style wrestling Association.
The winner of the Ist bout, Benia was given away a cash prize of Rs 7,000 in addition to traditional Silver Gurj and Patta by chief guest, Shiv Kumar Sharma, president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. Runners-up, Mool Chand got Rs 6,000 as cash prize.
Prithvi Raj Sharma (Retd. SP) was guest of honour while Prof. Shiv Nirmohi and (Retd. DySP), Mangal Singh were among those prominent present.
Panthal Kesari dangal is organised regularly for the last 111 years on “Makar Sakranti” with the active co-operation of locals from Panthal, Katra, Udhampur, Jammu, Manoon, Bhagata, Kunya, Chak- Bhagta and other areas.
In all, 54 bouts were decided in this day-long dangal. In the second main bout, wrestler Sagar of Delhi beat Digvijay of Khanna (Punjab) to got a cash prize of RS 5,500 and Rs 4,500 respectively. The third bout was won by Parveen of Khanna outplaying Fiza of Billawar in district Kathua.
Technical officials who helped for the smooth conduct of Dangal were Chuni Lal Padha, Pritam Magotra, Persotam Mengi, Mukesh Khajuria, Om Parkash Sanmotra, Rajinder Kumar Thappa, Rakesh Khajuria, Vicky Khajuria, Lekh Raj Sapolia, Pawan Khajuria Bittu Khajuria, Sham Lal Khajuria, Suresh Mengi, Ajit Kumar Master, Raman Kumar Sanmotra, Rakesh Chander Sanmotra. Darshan Kumar Prasher, Yas Paul Prasher, Romesh Chander Prasher, Ravi Khajuria, Bhushan Khajuria, Pappu Lakri, Vijay Singh, Allah Mai, Mohd fareed, Lehar Singh and Romesh Chander.
Other Results: Dharma bt Parveen, Amir Khan bt Jamal Din. Naresh bt Ajeet Singh, Bagga bt Gurdev Singh, Liqat Ali bt Shiv Raj, Inderjeet bt Devinder, Mohanu bt Prem Verma, Harban bt Daler Khan, Gurmail bt Youns Ali and Rajinder bt Gurpreet. Bouts between Shinda of Amritsar and Akram of Jammu, Anil Kumar (Mohanu) of Jammu and Jony of Amritsar and Pritam Singh of Reasi and Youns Ali of Shiv Mandir Akhara Jammu ended in a draw.
