J&K committed to equitable regional development | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 16: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla on Sunday kicked off work on double storey multipurpose community hall at Gorkha Nagar in Bahu Fort being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 lakh. Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said that on the completion of multipurpose community hall, the residents of Gorkha Nagar and adjoining areas would be able to arrange their social and religious functions on a nominal fee. He said that coalition government is committed to provide all basic amenities to all the communities residing in three regions of the state. Bhalla said that focus of the government is to develop Bahu Fort on modern lines adding that a comprehensive plan has been chalked out for developing the tourism infrastructure in Bagh-e-Bahu. He said that area is blessed with adequate locales and landscape required for bringing it on the tourist map of the country. Highlighting the role of Gorkhas in Jammu and Kashmir, he said Gorkhas had actively participated in all conflicts, operations and campaigns for expansion and consolidation of the State adding they had worked with Dogra troops and other community including Muslims representing the State force prior to the independence. He said Gorkhas had participated in reduction of Samartha fort, conquest of Ladakh, invasion of Balkistan, battle of Poonch, besides invasion of western Tibet, Giligit, Chilas, Hunz-Nagar Haveli campaigns and like that. He said names of those Gorkha jawans who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Jammu and Kashmir State are also engraved on the Balidan Stampbh at Bahu Fort being developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 16 crore.
